I have been generating AI images for at least 50% of my posts. I have been exclusively using DALL-E via ChatGPT4.
While I was flying home from China, Kirk said that I can do better than images he has seen me post. I love when he tells me this because I want to do better, and as my boss, I should listen. He opens his laptop and shows me MidJourney, which you use via Discord.
It is not a great user experience, but it is 5x better at making images and doesn’t give you pushback on copywrite like DALL-E does. It allows you to upscale and adjust images way more that the DALL-E app inside of ChatGPT.
I’m done with the technical talk. Now let’s talk theory. Generative AI is so good right now that it allows the entire all of us to be wildly more creative. It is difficult to make something if you can’t see it first. For centuries we relied on visionaries and creatives to help us see what is possible.
Now, with these AI models helping us see what is possible, we are all creators with a little bit of language. I have seen designs for wheelchairs that I know will get produced in the next few years, because it was possible to see first.
All the images you create in the Discord server are visible to others, at least that is what I experience now. Maybe there is a way to make it private, but I don’t think that is good for humanity.
I love seeing what everyone is making. I love seeing how other users evolve their images with new requests. I see that they are often doing commercial work that would have cost them $4,000 to do with photography and a studio:
It’s easy to put this stuff in a brochure or website or some place where you just need imagery to help fill the spaces. Architects have to be loving this tool. And interior designers or wedding or event planners. They can mess around with clients and really get ideas going.
If my teens’ local high school asked me to come teach every Thursday for an hour a class on AI, I would gladly volunteer my time. The youth need to become one with these tools inside a learning environment like school. If any of you have access to letting an old bald guy step foot in a high school to learn them AI, sign me up.
I want my artistic wife sculpt something similar to this for our Phi Studio opening in Gilbert, AZ later this year. This was someone else’s project they were creating in Discord and I forked their design and prompt into something I want. Sue me.
I can’t imagine anyone not having enough time to learn Midjourny or spending the $8/month to become a graphic artist. I am going to get good at this, so I can make product demos and such to quickly explain visually what I want from partners and such.
And lastly, why not make fan art. Whatever fantasy you have, like mine below, you can now just create it and put it on big screen in your home. I am about to go create art with my 9 year old who loves Legend of Zelda more than anything in this world. We won’t be blocked like we are currently in DALL-E, where she has tried and failed to get the images she wants to see.
Excited to share more over my posts to come.

I got trigger happy and sent this 30 minutes early. Sorry for those who use my email as an indicator of how much time they have before they leave work...
I'm absolutely obsessed with Midjourney! I used it to generate a lot of the images for my article about AI in Mental Health Treatment. Such a great tool!
