The Streak
No, I’m not posting the video that almost got me arrested in 1999:) Not that type of streaking.
Today, I’ve got a special announcement from my friend and filmmaker, Kelyn Ikegami.
His debut feature documentary, The Streak, arrives October 10 on Apple TV and Amazon Prime.
The film about the 1987 Salt Lake Trappers and their record-breaking 29-game winning streak, a mark that still stands. The story has roots in Salt Lake baseball history, Bill Murray was involved, and yes, the Trappers pulled off something that’s never been done since.
But the film isn’t just about baseball.
The first half rides the rush of that summer, the adrenaline, the joy, the chip-on-your-shoulder energy of players who were told they weren’t good enough but still refused to quit. Pioneer League ball is the lowest rung on the ladder, but it’s the purest form of the game: guys playing not for money, but to prove they still have value, still have a dream, still belong.
Then the film pivots. Decades later, the same men reflect on what the streak meant and what it cost. Triumph and heartbreak. Joy and grief. Hope and loss.
Kelyn put it best: “I made The Streak because it isn’t just about baseball. It’s about chasing dreams, living with failure, and finding meaning in unlikely places.”
I can’t wait for you to see it. Get your kids and watch it tonight! See the history of the State of Utah and baseball through the story telling of players and Kelyn’s passion for film
Happy Sunday 4:20 and may you have a moment to look at the Sun setting this evening.
