My Dad Is Going to Space, and He Deserves to Go.

He has lived a full life and all his kids are raised. He has already got to the top of Everest, so what’s a few more feet and a little less oxygen?

He deserves to go because he owes nothing to the humans back on this planet. He can go untethered. I can’t, I have debts to pay and family that I really hope want me around. He also needs to show the world that boomers and their boomer coins still need to be accepted by the degens going to the moon.

I wrote a post about my experience with my Father as he is applying to become an astronaut right now.

And here is his 200-word application:

"On the morning of Friday, May 13th, 2016 I fought through a fierce storm to become one of the first climbers to summit Mt. Everest in three years. I was overwhelmed with emotion as it had taken me 3 attempts in 5 years to finally stand on top of the world. The weather cleared and I marveled at the curvature of the earth and cobalt blue sky as if viewing the world from the window of a spaceship.
I had followed the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary who was the first to summit Mt.Everest. Now I have a chance to follow in the footsteps of Alan Sheppard whose 15-minute flight inaugurated America’s entry into the space race. To repeat not just one, but two of what history considers pinnacles of human endeavor would be a great honor and also a privilege to share with the world as an ambassador for Uplift Aerospace.
As an adventurer, I am often asked “what’s next?”. At age 67 with five children and 16 grandkids, it's hard to give an answer which trumps my past exploits. I look forward to answering: I am going to be an astronaut when I grow up!” -Greg paul
