Every year of my youth I remember my dad typing out a letter at Christmas time about the happenings in the Paul family. This letter was an annual update mailed with a photo of us to the 100 people they knew. I think the practice of sending off a Christmas card with a note is pretty common in the US. Many of you will get cards and photos of families and friends from all around the world at this time of year. I found this one my dad sent in 1998. He was exactly the same age as me (44) when he wrote this:
My dad was into climbing mountains, as you can see. 17 years after this letter he will summit Everest. Part of me dreams that he was speaking about cannabis in his “high” adventure remark in the 3rd paragraph from the bottom. I know that when I bring Snoop to Utah at a future Tech Week or Phi event, my old man will have a chance to partake once again with his son and the legendary King of 420.
So in this spirit of making a family newsletter, I am choosing to make today’s post a Christmas card. This is the last time your inbox will get a ScottsPost for a month. I am taking a full month of December off from publishing. Right now you are reading the 420th edition of Scottsposts. A few things have happened in the 3 years since publishing my first email newsletter.
It all started with crypto in 2021 and it’s now all about AI. I was banned from LinkedIn 3 times since beginning this Substack. I have started two new companies, Phi and Convoi, and funded many others in the last 3 years. I have been here and there and everywhere, and I have taken many of you with me for the journey through these posts.
I have watched my dear Natalie create new beliefs and passions that I never thought I would see happen. She co-founded a company and then had to learn that not all co-founders are trustworthy. We have taken up e-biking in the summer and skiing in the winter to enjoy our time together and talk through the hard shit. We decided to travel internationally as a family for a month or two each year. It’s not vacation it’s a journey.
I have watched my oldest daughter go to boarding school back in Connecticut and have her 16 year birthday away from us. She has since move out of the house again to go to UVU and study architecture. She spends hours on the trampoline each day discovering new music and shares the best with us. We have been to great concerts together, and this Saturday get to go to Zach Bryan as a family.
I have watched Jane start driving herself to two jobs so she can earn her gaming and food money, while also becoming a closeted TikTok creator. All the content I have made in the last 3 years on Youtube and Linkedin and in my email hasn’t seen a 10th of the reach of her just making one Tiktok, as seen below.

Jane has introduced me to all the best anime and I have finished Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Spy Family. Still finishing Death Note and a few others.
Sarah is into all the monsters, like SCP-173. This little guy will snap your neck if you aren’t careful. Here is her plushy of this SCP in our tree. She takes it everywhere. She just got into a new Montessori school in Midway and so far she has been the only child of ours to dodge public school until 5th grade and maintains a love of learning and loves attending each day. I do think there is correlation.
As for me, the patriarch of my family, I am feel like I am doing the best that a human can do. I don’t live with regret about anything. I don’t believe in “sins” and I have a theory we are in heaven right now. Jesus Christ was a rebel who drank wine with the prostitutes and loved to stir things up with the Jewish leadership in power. You could say I am doing my best to live like Jesus. I am even working on healing people with the miracle of AI. So, I am trying to be like Jesus, and that was what I remember singing and being taught in my youth.
I am excited to see many of you tomorrow evening. This concludes my 420th email and checks the box for the family Christmas Card. I can’t find many photos with all of us, so here is one from last month when the fam went to StarWars land at Disney.
Merry Sabbath to you all and a happy 4:20 Sunday afternoon.

Good job Dad
Haha, I've seen the pictures from that Lake Powell trip. It was certainly a "guys" trip.
