I’m Writing This From an Orange Hut 15k Feet High In the Andes
It’s only 10 pm here in the Ecuadorian Andes but all 20 of the other climbers are sleeping right now. We have to get up early to attempt a summit. I can’t sleep unless it’s past midnight, so I make my email now instead.
I’ve so grateful for the doctor that fixed my ACL, which is now functional just like it should. I promised myself that no thrill is worth the recovery so I take things slower these days.
We hike almost every day to acclimate and the conversations vary from three main subjects, tech, God, and traveling to other mountains to climb. We are not the most diverse bunch.
I am on a triple bunk typing with very little battery left on my iPhone.
Did you know I have only used my iPhone to type these emails? I send it to someone who edits and formats it, but I write everything in the Apple Notes app.
Did you know I don’t use desktops or laptops? I haven’t used it since 2010 (except for Crypto and Defi wallet stuff). Ask anyone that works with me or knows me. If it can’t happen on a phone I won’t do it. Luckily the world has developed in my favor.
I think I will get a desktop when my office in the barn is done. It will be done next month I am hoping. I send a photo of the inside when it’s done. It will be the first office I’ve ever had. Some people need a space to work and focus. I will see if that is true for me very soon.
So close to our Cryptopia and yet the Omicron gets crazier. Sundance canceled the live part of the festival and now it’s online. An online festival is an oxymoron in my book. We will keep ours in person and follow all the CDC guidelines.
Check out this space news from Uplift Aerospace.
15 years ago I needed help staffing a mobile rock climbing wall and this 15-year-old kid Josh Hanes worked for me. He was kind and great at all he did. Now he is working with NASA to put a store on the space station. You never know what these teens are going to go do with their lives. Josh thanks for letting me be part of your company…to the moon.
Cache just launched pre-sale. I know you want one of these for mountain biking. This is one of the few hardware companies I tried angel investing in and I love seeing their growth.
This is the family Paul. We are white AF and can’t do anything about that, but we are colorful on the inside and on the outside. We haven’t been together like this for a while. If you get an invite to unite as a family around an event or an activity, take it. I almost stayed home and I would have missed something that may only come once in a lifetime. The 75-year-old next to me is my uncle Randy Paul. He has most of the world’s knowledge stuck in his head and his goal is to help religious rivals love one another.
Okay, now 2 days have passed since I wrote all the above, and we are now at base camp. As you read this I will be attempting to climb Cotopaxi, which will take hours climbing in the night hoping to summit at 6 am. This is the hardest thing I’ve attempted in many years and I really hope my ACL I tore last February and fixed last April holds up.
See you on the other side.
