I am 43 tomorrow and you haven’t heard from my 42 year old self much at all. I have been super quiet since returning from Japan in May. It is mostly due to my lack of rhythm writing after I lost my daily habit of posting on Linkedin. The biz social network hasn’t explained why they not only banned my account, but wont allow me to make another one. At this point I am actually enjoying the break and don’t trust networks that own all my data and distribution.
I got to go camping with 65 of my friends last month. We call it Camp Convoi and it is my favorite work event of the year. Convoi Ventures might be smallest fund in Utah but we are definitely having the most fun in Utah. Trent is leading the team and making great headway on our new fundraising efforts.
Most of my day is spent talking about living better. Stack was the name of the company and product but we recently renamed the company after our health ai, which will be leading much of our company. The new name of the intelligence helping you live better is Phi. I have so much to share about Phi but it will start to sound like I am making up fantastical stories and so I will not go into it for the sake of finishing this email in one sitting. I can only point to clues, but my cofounder, Kirk Oiumet, is no stranger to using ai to help him get healthy. He was doing it years before ChatGPT with his own app he created called “Wise Being”. Reading this post he did over 3 years ago tells me so much about his vision for the future that we all get to participate in. I can just tell you that when you create a company to solve your own problems, It sure doesn’t feel like work, it feels like a great quest. Everyday I’m grateful I left the Shire to go on an adventure with a fellowship. Speaking of LOTR, doesn’t this picture of my 8 year old putting a horned lizard in a pinecone look like a baby dragon in it’s egg?
My oldest crashed my Model X in January, but luckily I have a good friend, Alex Lawerence, who started EV Auto. This is the only place I know of where you can test drive all the EVs and buy them. Alex is trying to fix the broken car dealership model. Attend their grand opening today and you will see. The team there got me into a Model Y and I am enjoying being back behind the auto-piloted wheel after a 6 month break. I will be at their grand opening today, Thursday, for lunch.
Also, Neon Rodeo is a new festival here in SLC of art and music that will be going on for a few days and my friends gave me a code to give y’all.
I just have to share some highlights of my last weeks. I got to take my Sherpa friend to Weezer. He hasn’t even really been to a concert ever, so it may have been overwhelming but so is climbing Everest 20 times. So many good shows in Utah this summer. Bon Iver, Sam Smith, Weezer, and at least 3 others I experienced but cant remember haha. I love watching my teenagers experience musical performances. I try to brag how I got to touch Rivers Cuomo at Club DV8 downtown SLC in 96 and help keep him on stage as he fell over into our hands in the front row and only 100 people were there. Quick googling shows me that clubbed burnt down. Is the rocking roll still real? or was it ever?
Please hit me up if you have anything super crazy or exciting to share about our world or your life. I feed on ideas, but I am very picky…bring me your best!
Scott Paul
I am too lazy to edit this with ai
